Galveston Island Getaway

Galveston Island, Texas is a great place for a weekend getaway. My husband and I spent a couple of days there in September 2020 for our wedding anniversary. We were a little hesitant due to Covid-19 restrictions but, our travel experience was well worth the discomfort of wearing a mask in the Gulf Coast hot and humid climate.

We had a lovely stay at the elegant Hotel Galvez that was built in 1911. We had a small corner room with windows overlooking the gulf and the city. The views definitely made up for the size of the room. The hotel is known for being haunted and we stayed on the fifth floor close to the infamous Room 501! We didn't see any ghosts but, I did have some strange dreams during our stay. Coincidence, or too many cocktails at the Galvez Bar & Grill ???

In my opinion the Hotel Galvez is in the perfect central location. You can easily walk across the street to catch the sunrise, walk along the beach to Murdoch's to shop for souvenirs and have a beer on their balcony in the afternoon, and then visit the Pleasure Pier Amusement Park in the evening. It's also within walking distance of the outstanding Bryan Museum full of Texas History and a quick uber ride to Galveston's Historic Downtown full of shops, restaurants, and the Galveston Harbor.Wether you are staying for a week or weekend there is plenty to do and see in Galveston and I can't wait to go back!
